Durban City boosted their bid to secure promotion as Cape Town Spurs' relegation fears increased following Motsepe Foundation Championship matchday 28 action.

A 3-0 win over JDR Stars on Sunday saw Durban City, who were formerly known as Maritzburg United, restore their three-point lead at the top of the league standings and they also have a game in hand.

The action started on Friday as Samuel Julies' first-half goal earned the University of Pretoria a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Cape Town Spurs, who slipped down to the 15th spot.

On Saturday, Orbit College consolidated their spot in second place by registering their third successive victory when they edged out Baroka FC 1-0 courtesy of Gomolemo Khoto's goal.

A 2-1 victory over Black Leopards saw Casric Stars climb to the third spot, thanks to two goals by Fils Ndou Moukete, while Leruma United remained 16th after losing 1-0 to Kruger United.

Goals from Olerato Mandi and Sibongakonke Magwaba helped 11th-placed Pretoria Callies move further away from the relegation zone following a 2-1 win over Hungry Lions.
