Aston Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in their last league match ended a five-game winning run in the Premier League. They have only lost consecutive league games once in the last two seasons, doing so in November against Liverpool and Spurs, but go into this game likely still reeling from the disappointment of the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in last Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Villa are only three points off fifth placed Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot next season.

Fulham looked sharp in front of goal at the weekend as they came from behind to beat Southampton and keep up outside hopes of a place in European club competition next season. But they would effectively need to win all four of their final Premier League fixtures of the season after their European aspirations suffered a major blow in recent weeks when they lost four of six Premier League fixtures before the Southampton trip.

One sided history: Villa have won six of their last seven Premier League games against Fulham, including the last four in a row, with the exception being a 3-0 away defeat in October 2022. Fulham have won just one of their last 20 away league games against Aston Villa, losing the last five in a row.

Uncertainty in the camp: Fulham plan to wait until after the season has ended to finalise the futures of players whose contracts are set to expire. It is understood their final league position is among the factors which will be used to determine which players are offered new deals. Kenny Tete, club captain Tom Cairney, and veteran Willian, who rejoined for six months in February, are all due to become free agents on July 1 if they do not sign new deals. Raul Jimenez, Adama Traore and Carlos Vinicius are also on deals with end on June 30, but Fulham have a clause in the trio’s contracts which gives them the option to trigger one-year extensions until June 2026.

Win either way: Villa come into this game having no featured in a drawn match in their last 15 outings, stretching back to 2-2 home draw with Liverpool in mid-February. None of Fulham’s last 14 Premier League games have been drawn, with seven victories and seven losses. But note that their last two wins came against the league leaders (3-2 v now champions Liverpool) and the bottom side (2-1 v relegated Southampton).

More than 2.5 goals: In Villa's last nine home Premier League games both teams have scored while Fulham have conceded one or more goals in their last eight away games in a row.

RB Leipzig v Bayern Munich

A 4-0 loss at third placed Eintracht Frankfurt last week left RB Leipzig in fifth spot in the Bundesliga, outside of the Champions League places. If they are to play in Europe’s top club competition next season, then Leipzig need to get back to winning ways after their last game saw them held by relegation-bound Holstein Kiel in a flat performance where they produced only two big chances from open play and needed a late penalty to salvage a point. Leipzig are chasing fourth place Freiburg, who are two points above them in the standings.

Bayern would stitch up the title with a win to reclaim the Bundesliga’s shield from Bayer Leverkusen, who are the only side that can catch them. A draw would be enough in reality as that would take Bayern to 76 points which is the most that Leverkusen can get if they win their remaining three fixtures. Bayern will have a sizeable advantage in terms of goal difference in the event the teams end up tied on points (+61 compared to Leverkusen's +31). It is going to take a spectacular collapse for Bayern to slip although Vincent Kompany's side still have to face European hopefuls in the form of Leipzig and Gladbach, who are both teams who have caused them problems in recent years.

RB Leipzig v Bayern Munich Key Betting Insights:

Dutch delight: Netherlands international Xavi Simons has been limited to just 22 Bundesliga appearances this season due to a lengthy injury lay-off, but he remains the focal point of the team. With nine league goals and five assists – all but three of which have come in 2025 - he is an ever-present danger in the final third and Bayern will key a wary eye on him in this clash.

Harry’s game: England international Harry Kane is set to end his long wait for a major-trophy but will not be on the pitch if Bayern Munich seal the Bundesliga trophy next week due to suspension. Kane picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 3-0 win over Mainz last weekend. Adding medals to Kane’s remarkable goal tally – for both club and country – was one of the major motivations behind his move to Bayern two years ago, looking to put to bed any notions of a "curse" around his career when it came to collecting silverware.

More than 2.5 goals: Matches between Leipzig and Bayern are always full of goals. The last five have had a minimum of three goals per game and only one of the last nine head-to-head clashes between the two clubs has seen less than three goals per game.

Thomas Muller to score anytime: The German World Cup winner has amassed over 30 trophies with Bayern Munich, who he joined as a 10-year-old, and last week made his 500th appearance. He is leaving at the end of the season but with Harry Kane not playing, will be fancied to use the opportunity to remind of his incredible career.

No side in Europe’s top five leagues has netted more goals than Bayern’s 90 and they won December’s reverse fixture 5-1 and a similar outcome looks likely. Leipzig have lost three of their last six games and may not have enough to stop Bayern, who have seen 11 of their last 13 matches go over 2.5 goals, running riot at the Red Bull Arena.

Cape Town City v Mamelodi Sundowns

These are dark days for Cape Town City, bottom of the Premier Soccer League with the worst goal-difference and three tough games to play. They look odds-on for the relegation play-offs, especially as they cannot score goals, just 13 in 25 games so far is truly shocking. After hosting Mamelodi Sundowns, they have a difficult away day at Polokwane City and then a home fixture with their nemesis Stellenbosch, who have beaten them with ease in recent reasons. 

A win on Wednesday for champions Sundowns, coupled with defeat for their closest challengers, means the Brazilians have taken a giant step closer to another title, a record-extending 18th and eighth in a row. They have a 12 points lead over Pirates, who have played two games less and so effectively need to win three of their remaining five league games … that is if Pirates return to winning ways. If not, then the target for Sundowns will be even less arduous. Their priority over the next month, however, is taking the African Champions League and they are in the final against Pyramids of Egypt.

Cape Town City v Mamelodi Sundowns Key Betting Insights:

Club’s worst run: Cape Town City have now gone 13 matches without a victory stretching back to their narrow come-from-behind victory over Richards Bay at home in mid-January. It the worst run of any of the top flight teams this season. They are on their third coach this season after the sackings of both Eric Tinkler and Muhsin Ertugral. Diego Peral is caretaker until the end of the season.

Cape record: Sundowns have no fears taking the two hour plane ride down to the Cape. They have lost only once in their last 14 games in the Western Cape, beaten by Stellenbosch two seasons ago in the Nedbank Cup. City last beat Sundowns in Cape Town in March 2019 – a year before the COVID crisis broke out.

City are panicking at the prospect of finishing 15th in the standings and being forced into the promotion-relegation playoffs at the end of the season but it seems that is now their fate as they have run out of games. Sundowns are on a mission to ensure they wrap up the league title before the first leg of their Champions League final against Pyramids.

Brentford v Manchester United

Brentford still harbour slim hopes of competing in European club competition next season. An eighth-place finish could be enough to secure Europa Conference League football next season and the Bees will be just two points from Fulham in eighth should they win at Forest on Thursday night. Defeat, however, would more or less rule out any chance for Thomas Frank's side this term.

Manchester United likely cannot wait for this season to be over. Faltering heavily in the league, all eyes will be on the Europa League for the Red Devils. The clash against Brentford falls in between the two legs of their semi-final tie against Spain’s Athletic Bilbao. In the Premier League, Ruben Amorim’s side are now winless in their past five fixtures, losing three of those. The only exceptions were a goalless draw with Manchester City at Old Trafford and scrapping a point at Bournemouth last weekend.

West Ham look set to finish just above the Premier League drop zone, although there is no danger of relegation with the bottom three already determined. They come into this London derby after losing three of their last five fixture but have the incentive that a victory could take them above Tottenham in the standings.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou’s long-term future remains in the balance, as the North London club are set to suffer their lowest finish in Premier League history. They have lost their previous three league matches and if they suffer another defeat will slip down one place in the standings to 17th.

Holding onto a lead: Since Graham Potter’s first Premier League game in charge of West Ham on 14 January, only Southampton (14) have dropped more points from winning positions than the Hammers have (12), failing to win any of the last four when they have gone ahead in a match.

Bundled out of the Champions League by Arsenal and beaten in last weekend’s Copa del Rey final, this could be an empty-handed season for Real if they do not catch up to the Catalans in the LaLiga title race. They are four points behind with five games remaining. The cup final loss to Barca means Real have won only three of their last eight fixtures in all competitions. The wins have come over Alaves and Getafe away plus Athletic Bilbao at home in LaLiga.

Celta Vigo make the trip to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu having beat Villarreal 3-0 at home in their last league match. It means they are undefeated in nine of their last 11 fixtures, including away wins over Real Valladolid and Mallorca away. But away from home they have won only two of their last 12 LaLiga trips. 

Real Madrid v Celta Vigo Key Betting Insights:

Where is the manager going: Carlo Ancelotti is leaving Real Madrid, perhaps even before June’s Club World Cup in the US. But it would seem he has decided to ‘say no’ to Brazil after receiving a new ‘significant offer’. The 65-year-old Ancelotti is towards the end of his fourth year of a hugely successful spell, winning the Champions League and La Liga two times since 2021. He has been line-up as the new Brazil manager but those plans now look to have been overtaken.

Chasing Europe: Celta are only eight points behind sixth-placed Real Betis in the battle for a European spot next season, and they have been a good watch this term, scoring 50 times but also conceding 49, which is the most in the top 12. They finished 13th in Spain's top flight last season, while they have not been in the top six since 2016, so there is plenty on the line for the club in the final stages of this campaign.

Kylian Mbappe anytime scorer: Fit again after an injury break, the French World Cup winner is likely to line-up in the starting XI and will be inching to be among the goals.
