Mamelodi Sundowns are Betway Premiership champions for the eighth consecutive season after defeating Chippa United 3-0 at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium in East London on Wednesday.

Tha Brazilians secured their 18th league title with a second 3-0 victory over the Chilli Boys in the space of a week, maintaining their undefeated record against Chippa in the league.

Chippa remain in the race for a spot in the top eight despite extending their losing streak to 6 games in the Betway Premiership. They barely sit above Chiefs and Marumo Gallants on goal difference as they chase their second ever top eight finish in the PSL.

Sundowns nearly opened the scoring in the first minutes forcing a turnover from Chippa, but Iqram Rayners couldn't keep his shot on target from a tight angle.

Rayners found the target in the 11th minute as he was played in by Lucas Ribeiro Costa, turned onto his right and tucked the ball in the top left corner for his 14th league goal of the season, drawing level with Ribeiro.

The Brazilian national almost got a goal of his own in the 21st min but was denied by Chippa goalkeeper Darren Johnson after being set up by Rayners.

Johnson denied Sundowns another chance when he was forced to rush out of his box and clear the ball in the 32nd minute, beating Rayners to Jayden Adams’ pass down the middle of the pitch.

Masandawana kept pushing for a second and came close in the 38th minute, as Rayners found Tashreeq Matthews on the left side of the box but Matthews’ shot cruised narrowly over the crossbar.

Sundowns kept the pressure on to start the second half and should have doubled their lead in the 57th min as Matthews played a perfect ball to Rayners who popped the ball up with his first touch before volleying it into the back of the net, but was incorrectly judged to have been judged offside.

The Brazillians finally got their second goal/sealed the title in the 69th min as Arthur Sales’ intended cross found the top left corner, forcing coach Miguel Cardoso to join in on the celebrations.

In the 78th min, substitute Peter Shalulile found Thapelo Morena on the opposite side of the box, whose effort went over the bar.

Sales bagged his second of the game in 89th minute, capitalising on a horrible pass from Johnson and slotting the ball into the bottom left corner, sealing the title for Masandawana.

Sundowns will lift the trophy after their final game of the season against Magesi FC at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday.

Chippa will face Marumo Gallants on Saturday at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium as both sides tussle for a place in the top eight.
